My goal for our summer is always to find one great book that we can read SLOWLY and savor all of the greatness that the author took the time to include.

Nim’s Island by Wendy Orr is one of my favorite books that I the kids and I have explored together.  We easily could have read this book in a weekend, but by stretching it out (Five in a Row style) we were able to create a fantastic summer adventure, and learn quite a bit along the way.

These are our lesson plans.  Enjoy!

Chapter 1

Chapter 2

Chapters 3 and 4

Chapters 5 and 6

Chapters 7 and 8

Chapters 9 and 10

Chapters 11 and 12

Chapters 13 and 14

Chapters 15 and 16

Quick update: Wendy Orr just got in touch with me to let me know that she has included some of these lesson plans in a new activity book for Nim’s Island that is available on Kindle.  I flipped through it and was thrilled with the huge variety of ideas she offered.  It is well worth the $3.50, and if I remember right, her profits are going to benefit her local library.  Take a look: Nim’s Island Excellent Stuff to Make, Cook, Read, Do

(Note: I don’t get any compensation for recommending this activity book – it is just a great find that I wanted to share with you)
