It is 8:00AM on Monday and we’ve already had two calls this morning that change our schedule.  It is wacky how stuff like this comes in clumps.

My girls are asking me what we will be doing for the rest of the week.  I am so tempted to do my “job,” and have my dyslexic child continue to work on her reading and my youngest do a few more lessons in math, but I’ve decided that the right thing to do this week is to fight that urge.

Instead, we will be taking a break, doing some fun girly things that aren’t high priority in our normal schedule; painting our toe nails, reading fun books about dogs for my girls’ 4-H project, going to an amusement park, and generally having fun.

I’m a big believer in the {power of routines}.  They are the foundation that keeps us on auto-pilot to make progress every day, but every choice has consequences.  By choosing to follow a routine, we have  inintentionally chosen to have less time for other things.   It is easy to become stuck in a rut, so today we are jumping the tracks and doing something different.  I’m canceling all of our obligations and scheduling time for rest.

We are going to re-energize this week, and feed our creative side for a bit.  Friends will be invited over.  Long neglected craft projects will be dragged out.  Maybe we will even tackle those messy bedrooms, or (shudder) my heap of school planning materials.

It is all about balance, so we will be right back to our routine next week, but for now we are going to enjoy our time of rest.  I’m already started to feel inspired.

Routine is good, but you’ve got to break it and have some spontaneous fun every now and then. Enjoy your week!
