Step one:  Look

Step two: Reach

Step three: Reach just a bit too far

SPLASH!  Completely underwater.  Sputtering.  Splashing.  NOT obeying the please be quiet, only touch with flat hands rule.

The good news is that she is completely fine (though much MUCH wetter than any of us thought possible) and we got a great t-shirt out of the deal.  The bad news is that the exhibit is now closed until noon tomorrow for “Routine Maintenance.”

Kinda’ makes you wonder how “routine” falling in the shark & ray tank is.

Oh, and just to make the situation a little more absurd, my sweetheart’s comment as I put her to bed after this crazy day was,

“Next time I fall in at the aquarium I’ll try to remember to kick my feet.”

GAH! I hope there isn’t a next time.  And I’m pretty sure that the staff and those poor sharks and rays hope the same thing.

Yes, she is fine. My oldest wants me to call the aquarium to check on the animals though. We aren’t really sure if she landed on anyone. I hope not!!!

The fun seems to come with the re-telling. Like all great family lore, the event itself was slightly traumatizing, but every time we tell the story it gets funnier.

She is smiling now, but it took a while to calm her down. Actually, that is why I even have the shot of her crying. Usually when I pull out the camera she will automatically smile, so I was hoping that it would distract her from her fright. Obviously, my plan didn’t work.

There will not be a next time. There will not be a next time. Oh please, don’t let there be a next time!

We always seem to be the family that goes in the exit door, but this tops our regular irregularities.

At least it’s a good story to tell! How many people can say the same story? I love the happy wet picture of her at the end. She’s got such a great smile!
