Sometimes you just feel out of your league.

When my husband finished work on his grandpa’s little racing boat this winter, we joked about entering it in the Antique boat show on the lake.

We love our tiny racer and all the history it holds for our family, but didn’t really expect that anyone else could see the charm in our miniature blue homemade boat.  Not when the boat show is home to pristine works of art so shiny and smooth that “a fly could break his neck on it” (One of Pop’s favorite phrases – always makes me smile).

We decided to enter the 2012 Antique Boat Show in Meredith anyway.  Just for giggles I pushed my husband to enter the judged class. With 70+ beautiful vintage wooden boats there, we didn’t expect much, but wanted to hear what the judges had to say.  After all, he had spent gazillions of hours (not really, but some nights it felt like it) sanding and breathing blue paint, and a nice pat on the back is always welcome.

What a charming community by the way.  We had a great time chatting with the other boaters, and even the kids got excited to vote for their favorites.

Well, we received a huge surprise, two trophies.  (That first place trophy in the photo is kinda’ deceiving.  It isn’t for the entire show – a real beauty won that honor.)  He got best outboard motor, and first place in the outboard boat division.  No kidding!  Hooray for grandpa’s little boat and my amazing husband!  Not bad for a show he wasn’t sure the boat was good enough to enter.

Yes, I’m very proud of him!

Shhh… I still really like the amphi-car too.
